3. Programma didattico:
Learning how to communicate well on the telephone
is one of your top priorities? Do you need to
use English at work or in a casual context?
Well, look no further. Whether you are
interested in Business English or General
English, audio in English has all the
resources you need to learn and practice English
for the telephone.
When you're not a native English speaker,
understanding someone speaking in English
over the telephone can be quite challenging,
because you cannot see the person you are
trying to communicate with. And speaking
English over the telephone and making
yourself understood can be a difficult skill
for you to master, too.
The English spoken over the telephone is
based upon a limited number of common phrases
and language patterns, and we've recorded
them all for you.
This course comprises audio recordings of
the most common phrases used in phone
conversations, plus dialogues and role-play
exercises specially designed to improve your
telephoning skills. To learn English for
the telephone, all you have to do is
listen to these recordings and repeat after
the speakers. And remember, practice makes
perfect!
Popular Telephone English topics
available in this course include:
- Starting the call
- Answering the phone
- Transferring the call
- Taking a message
- Leaving a message
- Ending the conversation
And these are just a few of the resources
available. I also have some useful
Telephone English tips...
Learning how to communicate well on the
telephone is one of the top priorities for
many students who need to use English at work
and not only. Learning the common phrases
that are used on the telephone helps students
know what to expect. However, what students
often need most is practice, practice,
and more practice. Telephoning
requires special skills as
there are a number of difficulties that arise
when telephoning that are specific to
telephoning. The first and foremost
difficulty is not being able to see the
person you are communicating with. This lack
of visual communication often makes people,
who can communicate quite successfully in
other situations, nervous and thereby hinders
their communicative abilities. Add to this
the typical hectic pace of business
communication, and you have a particularly
difficult situation.This course includes a
number of ingredients to improve telephoning
skills. Included you will find specific
telephoning phrases, telephoning
techniques to improve confidence
when telephoning and telephoning practice
exercises.
Every contact with a potential employer is
an opportunity to impress, so even a one-minute
telephone conversation can play an integral
part in getting a job.If you
dont feel comfortable talking on the
telephone, you should practise your telephone
technique!
Develop your English listening and reading
skills using these audio files and audio
scripts. You can listen to the files,
downloading them onto your PC and putting
them on your MP3 player, then see if you've
understood by reading the scripts. You can
also read the stories online as you listen,
and then do language activities, or print out
the audio scripts and read the stories on
paper as you listen.
Listening is one of the best ways
to learn language, exposing the
learner to large amounts of fluent input
while encouraging them to use what they hear
in creative output. The Audio focuses on
practical conversations and academic language.
Please note that these dialogues are written
in native English.
Do you want to improve your telephone
English skills? Here are some useful tips:
Listen to all audio sending in this
course.
Repeat the phrases after the
native speakers (repeat each phrase
three times). This will improve your
confidence when telephoning!
Learn by heart the common
phrases that are used on the
telephone. This way, you'll know both what to
expect and what to say on the phone.
Learn how to answer the phone
and say goodbye in a polite manner,
as well as all the various ways one can
start and end a conversation
casually.
Take the time to learn what to
say when you don't hear something
properly.
Practise saying dates and
numbers aloud.
Memorize English Phonetic
Spelling. Practise spelling your
name, your e-mail address, your street
address, your company's name and so on.
Do the role-play exercises.
Practice each role-play exercise three times.
Practice, practice, practice. Practice makes
perfect!
Practise talking on the phone
in English with a friend.
Before you make a phone call,
practise or write down what you are going to
say and take a few deep breaths.
On the telephone, speak slowly
and clearly.
If the other speaks too fast,
ask him/her to slow down.
Don't pretend to understand
everything you hear over the telephone.
If you didn't understand, ask the
other person to repeat, and confirm
information from time to time.
Use formal language
when you speak to someone on the phone in a
business setting. Don't be too direct on the
telephone.
If the phone rings in English,
don't be afraid to answer it! The
fear of talking on the phone in English will
disappear if you practise often.
Good luck learning English!
